Founded at the turn of the 19th Century, Nairobi has grown from a small railway outpost to a major cosmopolitan centre. It is the capital of Kenya and the largest industrial and commercial centre in East Africa with a population close to 4 million. Nairobi has a temperate climate all year round with warm days and cool nights. A guided City tour includes a visit to the famous Nairobi National Museum, the adjacent Snake Park and the Aviary. At the viewpoint across Uhuru Park, one gets a splendid view of the City of Nairobi.

THE GIRAFFE CENTRE

KAREN BLIXEN MUSEUM/ UTAMADUNI CRAFT CENTRE (3 HOURS) $90 per person

The Nairobi Giraffe Center is located 15kms from the city centre. The Centre was founded in 1978 to save the Rothschild Giraffe from extinction. From a safe specially constructed platform, you may hand-feed and make friends with the majestic resident Giraffes. Proceed to the adjacent Karen Blixen Museum which is an immensely popular tourist attraction. Its beautiful wood-panned rooms are filled with interesting archeological artifacts. After that wonderful experience depart to Utamaduni Craft Centre where you get the opportunity to purchase a couple of souvenirs from the local artists.

BOMAS OF KENYA (4 HOURS)

Cultural Heritage Center

Bomas of Kenya is located 8 kms from Nairobi city centre. ‘Boma’ is a Kiswahili word for homesteads or fort. The place is adorned with many homesteads depicting Kenya’s cocktail of tribal cultures. This is a cultural tour that introduces you to the traditional village life of Kenya’s major tribes. The highlight of the visit is the afternoon performances by traditional dancers and professional acrobats inside the centre’s magnificent Arena.

LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK (FULL DAY)

Cultural Heritage Center

Depart from Nairobi after an early breakfast. A brief stop at a Great Rift Valley view point. On arrival at Nakuru National Park, embark on game viewing and bird watching in Nakuru National Park and Lake Nakuru. Lunch at a lodge in the Park. More game viewing enroute to Nairobi. Brief stop at Lake Naivasha for evening tea. Arrive in Nairobi early evening.

THE NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK (4 HOURS)

The Park within the City

The Nairobi National Park is 7 km South - East of Nairobi city centre. The small park (117sq.kms) contains all the major animal species with the exception of the Elephant. The sight of wildlife grazing majestically against the back-drop of the City skyline is a pleasant experience. Close to the Main Entrance of the Park is the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, founded in 1963 to provide a home for injured and orphaned young animals.

Here the animals are nursed to good health and then released back to the wild. From the verandah of the Ranger’s Restaurant adjacent to the Orphanage, one can view the animals in their natural setting. The verandah outlooks a floodlit waterhole, favoured by many of the Park wildlife. The best time for game drives in the Park is early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

THE CARNIVORE LUNCHEON OR DINNER

The Carnivore Restaurant is located 6km from Nairobi city centre. Among the many high standard restaurants in the city, the Carnivore stands in a class of its own. It is famous for its succulent steaks and game meat served at your table in giant skewers. The tender hearted are also adequately catered for; there is an unlimited supply of savory beef, pork, fish and chicken.

A comprehensive vegetarian menu is also available. The restaurant guarantees to satisfy the most demanding of appetites. After dinner you may choose to move to the Simba Salon and shake down the meat or dance the night away.

Mombasa Excursions

HALF-DAY MOMBASA TOWN TRAIL

The colorful island town of Mombasa with its blend of ancient and modern buildings on the Indian Ocean is Kenya principal port and the country's second's largest city. A comprehensive tour of the islands includes the Arab Old Town, with its maze of narrow twisting alleys displaying the beautiful carved doors and Arab verandas, bazaars with curio and antique shops, the Dhow Harbor (still in use), a Hindu temple, a visit to the Akamba wood carvers and a drive to the bazaar fir a short shopping expedition. The highlight of the tour is probably the visit to Fort Jesus.


Built in 1593 by the Portuguese to guard the entrance to the Old Dhow Harbor, it is the Island's Landmark. Four hundred years old, the fort still stands and serves as a historical museum.

HALF-DAY COASTAL CULTURAL TRAIL

The tour provides a glimpse into the traditions and cultures of the coastal people with a visit to a Giriama or Digo village with our local guide. Continue to Kaloleni to visit the local market and thereafter drive to Kenya Marine land on the north Coast to observe numerous species of tropical marine life in giant aquariums. A snake park, situated nearby is also visited and you can watch carvers at work producing the famous "Makonde" pieces of art.

HALF DAY SHIMBA HILLS TRAILS

The Shimba Hills, a short drive from Mombasa, are over a thousand feet high with a view of both the Indian Ocean and the African Bush. Rare animals like the Roan and Sable antelopes are seen in this area besides elephants, buffaloes and a wide variety of bird lives.
